Quarter 3 River Clean Up: Make a Difference, Clean Up & Recycle

In celebration of World Clean Up Day and SA Week 2024, the Rotary Club of Sandton is excited to announce our upcoming river clean-up events at the Braamfontein Spruit river! Join us at our last clean up for the year on 19 October 2024 and be counted in making a difference in our community and country!

The Braamfontein Spruit river is a vital waterway in our community, providing essential ecological services and recreational opportunities. Unfortunately, it has suffered from pollution and neglect. Our monthly clean-ups aim to restore the river's natural beauty and health, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for future generations.

These efforts are a testament to Rotary's commitment to environmental sustainability, one of Rotary International’s key areas of focus. By participating in these clean-ups, volunteers will not only contribute to the environmental well-being of our community but also join a global movement dedicated to protecting our planet.

ROTARY FUN DAY FOR PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

Every year for over 40 years, the Rotary Club of Sandton has arranged a fun day for 100–200 individuals with intellectual disabilities. This event has been run in partnership with Special Olympics South Africa for the past 10 years.

The participants come from special schools and group homes around Gauteng including Bona Lesedi, Irene Homes, Forest Farm Centre, Logwood Village and many more.

This year, the Fun Day will take place at the Field and Study Center, in Sandton, on Saturday, 25 May 2024.

The day consists of games such as bocce, football, fun athletic races, volleyball, tug-of-war, and many others. We also arrange rides on Harley Davidson motorcycles, thanks to Steel Wings Motorcycle Club and also provide a very entertaining magic show for the participants.

All athletes, coaches, and other helpers are provided with snacks, lunch, and soft drinks sponsored by Woolworths. Participants receive a goodie bag at the end of the event having enjoyed what is for them a really special day in their year.
